AutoCorrect anomaly

Here's something odd. In my Word 97, I found that there is an
AutoCorrect entry which changes the word "False" (with initial cap) to
two apostrophes. I'm sure I never created this deliberately. I opened
up the AutoCorrect dialog box and the entry was there.

Then I opened up a pristine version of Word and tried it there. There
is no such entry in the pristine version. Yet all my other AutoCorrect
entries that work in my Normal, also work in the pristine version.

I looked in the .acl file in C:\Windows. It has all my AutoCorrect
entries, but no entry for "False."

So where in the heck could this entry be coming from? How can it be in
Normal, but not in the pristine, since they both use the same .acl file?

Thanks,
Larry

Hmm, I guess no one has run into this kind of situation? Nothing
practical hinges on this, since I can simply delete the entry and be
done with it. But I would like to understand how there could be an
AutoCorrect entry which (1) is not located in any .acl file, (2) works
with my Normal, but (3) doesn't work in a pristine version of Word.

I guess you're right: no one has seen this strange problem.

Hi Larry,

If it's a formatted AutoCorrect, it's stored in "Normal.dot".

And I imagine an apostrophe and the word "false" are not too unlikely to
appear somewhere in the binary Normal.dot file.
Perhaps some corruption? At least I'd be wary, and make backups of
Normal.dot once in a while.

That's it, it's a formatted entry. I had checked for that before, and
thought it said unformatted, but I must have misread it.

Thanks!
