Autoconnect not working

I'm running Vista Ultimate. My PC will not recognize any flash drives. Also,
I just connect my Olympus camera to download pictures and it would do that
either. I called Olynpus support and was able to determine that the problem
wasn't in the camera or the cable (successfully connect to my XP laptop). One
of the screens I got said that it needed to find the driver. Olympus tells me
that no driver is necessary because it is an autoconnect device. Can anyone
help work thorough being able to connect and download photos to my PC?

I also have an Olympus FE-290 camera and cannot get my system to locate it as
a device at all. Have tried to install the Olympus Master 2.04 software
several times hooking and unhooking the camera with no luck. The laptop I
have is running MS Windows Home Preium Edition 32-bit. I have looked on both
Toshiba's, Microsoft's and Olympus' websites but it appears I have the
correct driver as well.

Did you ever find out an answer for this dilemna?

Thank You.

John.

Yes. I exchanged several emails with Olympus. They stayed with it until we
solved the problem. Here's what they had me do.

Look in the "filerepository" folder and locate a folder name that starts
with usbstor.inf and double click on it. In that folder you should see a
USBSTOR.inf file, right click and copy that file. Then back up to c:/windows
and go to the "inf" folder under windows and highlight it. Paste that
USBSTOR.inf file in the "inf" folder.

Once that is done try installing the device again and see if it pulls up and
works.

I had to go through the reinstall the driver routine again after copying and
moving the inf file. The first time, it didn't find it, so I chose a
different location (simply the Windows/System32 folder) and it found the
driver and reinstalled it.

I hope this helps you.
