Why outlook does not auto complete from the contacts?
Why it has to build a n2k cache?

What I want is: when I start to type a name, outlook should check the name
in the contacts and suggest the email address that I can select.

Why such a simple thing not possible?

Maybe in the next version?

Autocompletion and Autoresolution are 2 different items. Autocompletion
depends on addresses you have sent email to. It has nothing to do with your
contacts.

Autoresolution DOES run against your Contacts folder. When you type a name
in the TO field and press Alt+K, it will check your contacts to give you the
correct email address.

It works the same in all versions of Outlook and probably always will.

Got it. Suspect the OP was asking about autocompletion feature and used the
"check names" without knowing what he was saying.

Sorry if my response was somewhat oblique

Ok I did not know about alt+k.
Thank you.

But still, why I have to press alt+k? It could automatically pop up when
typing in the name, as in the autocompletion case.

As Milly explained: 2 completely different features. Use autocompletion to
send to previous recipients. Use autoresolution to send to Contacts. Soon
you will find that your autocompletion cache will also contain all your
Contacts, rendering autoresolution obsolete.

Yes they can be different. But consistently you miss my point.
Whether it is compeltiion or resolution, whatever it is, outlook can just
pop up names that are in the contacts without a need to press alt k.

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

No it can't. Isn't that what you were complaining about? Now you say it can?
Outlook will only invoke addresses from Contacts when you resolve the entry,
either by hitting ctrl-K, tabbing out of the field, or sending the message.
Only when the address is in your autocompletion cache can you bypass
resolution.
