Autocomplete in Outlook Email

C

Cedac

The Autocomplete feature in my Outlook does not work. I
have the AC feature set to autocomplete in the To, CC and
BCC fields (under Tools, preference email options,
advanced). Can anyone tell me why this does not work and
how to fix it.

Post your Outlook version.
What "AC feature" is it that you think you have set? Tell us how you set it.
Have you sent enough messages that you've populate an autocompletion cache?

I have OL 2003 using XP professional OS. I assume the
autocomlete feature works like it does in OL express
where it takes addresses from the address book. Is this
not true. I never heard that you need to establish a
cache. However, I have sent messages from OL to a
person, and then it still will not Ac the next time.

Thanks,
Cedac

It does not work like OE.
You still did not tell me what feature you enabled and how. Nowhere in
Outlook would you see anything that looks remotely like "autocomplete
feature" so your post is confusing.

Russ,

Sorry for the incomplete answer.
In OL if you go to Tools->Options->Preferences tab, click
the "Email Options" button, and on the next menu, click
the "Advance Email Options" button. The second from
bottom box reads "Suggest Names while completing To, CC
and BCC fields." The Help menu in OL tells you that this
is how to set the Autocomplete feature. I have done this
and it does not work.

Thanks for your help!

Russ,
I have sent very few messages from OL, because I went
back to OE. If this feature does not work, then OL is to
slow for entering email addresses.

Thanks,

The feature works just fine unless you have a corrupt profile.

Hmmmm,

Tell us more about your installation. OS, version of Outlook, etc. If
you're running OL2000 I'd say upgrade. (Sorry but I've seen this probem a
couple dozen times with that version)

Have you upgraded OS?

Do you know how to find the NK2 (autocomplete file)?

This sort of thing happened to me, but I'm not sure if the reason is the same. Check the properties of the contacts folder. Right click on contacts, check properties, then look for the outlook address book tab. Make sure the box next to "show this folder as an email address book" is checked. That work for me (using outlook 2k2). Hope this helps

One of the more common types of corruption that can occur in a Profile is
the loss of connection to its autocompletion cache. Creating a new profile
simply starts a new cache that is connected correctly to the Profile.
Information in your old cache will be lost of course (but it is already if
autocomplete won't work). You can use the directions here:
