Autocomplete Does Not Remember Addressses

T

Terry Smerling

Each time I open Outlook 2003, Autocomplete fails to remember addresses that
I use all the time. During each session, once I use an address,
Autocomplete remembers it for that session only. At the next session I have
to start all over again. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

find and delete *.NK2 at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

Is outlook closing completely? Look in task manager. If you shut down the
computer without closing outlook, close outlook first.

If that doesn't work, create a new profile. This problem is caused by
profile corruption, not NK2 corruption so deleting the NK2 file might not
correct it.

Diane,

While I'm certain that we both agree that it is unwise to rely on the
cache's contents, it is just too easy to populate it. That quick "reply-to"
or any other send action populates it too easily for most users. (I know
that you know this).

The problem is that most people do not realize how "convenient" it is to
build the cache and thus "do it". As a natural consequence of human
behavior, people commonly do what is easiest and not what is correct or
right as you suggest. That is one reason that we built the "copy to
Contacts" function in the latest version of our software. At least we have
provided a means by which one can easily migrate that data store to the PST
or text file.

I know that this service is provided for free, but oddly, our programmers
don't work for free and our landlord likes to be paid monthly.....the nerve!

With good humor,
Randy

Yes, please do not delete the NK2 file unless you are certain that you do
not care about it's contents. Oftentimes, this cache files is the only
information store of email addresses for a user. Try the profile
correction first.

You may also want to review a recent article in PC Magazine regarding the
NK2 file. You can find it at:

Any suggestions for missing NK2 files? The cache resets everytime
outlook is closed. I went looking for the NK2 file but didn't find
any, anywhere on the computer. It also would stink if i had to
recreate the profile since it is a roaming profile in a domain.

ciao,

gMan

we believe it's a corrupt profile... so a new one is the best bet. Did you
enable hidden files and folders?

By profile, do you mean specifically the email profile, or the user's profile
If that doesn't work, create a new profile. This problem is caused by
profile corruption, not NK2 corruption so deleting the NK2 file might not

I mean the Outlook profile, not a Windows user profile.
