AUTOCOMPLETE BUG

I've tried everything..
yes, I know how to clear autocomplete..tried clearing my index.dats..i've even tried "spyware," it's all worthless
try typing in a url like www.yahoo.co
then add a few "/"'
so www.yahoo.com///
now type www. into the address bar and see if you can clear it from the autocomplete list
if you set history to 0 or turn off autocomplete it will disappear, only to reappear as soon as you set it back
try to offer a solution
thank

No solution, I'm afraid, just sympathy. As you can see on my thread, I've tried everything anyone has suggested, to no effect. What amazes me is that there are so many apparent solutions being suggested, none of which work! These include some software downloads you are invited to pay for. If you do find the answer, PLEASE publish it. And if anyone has a genuine solution, I will gladly make a donation, either to you or to a charity of your choice.

I don't claim that this is the simpliest way to do it, but it'll fix it (I
just did on mine)

Close ALL instances of IE
Right Click your taskbar and goto properties, then goto the Start Menu tab
Hit the customize button of whichever Start Menu you are using
If it is start menu, goto Advanced tab, and then hit "clear list" in the
Recent Documents section
If it is classic Start Menu, hit "Clear" in the Start Menu section
Hit ok to exit that
Log off your current user
Log in as another user (preferably one that can access your directory in
Documents and Settings directory... I used my Administrator account)
Goto the C:\, then Documents and Settings, then the user in question
Goto the hidden Local Settings directory (your address bar should now read
something like C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings
Goto the History directory and within it, you should see a History.IE5
directory.
Delete that History.IE5 directory
Log off with the user that you are logged in as
Log back on with the user that had the original issue.

That should do the trick (it did for me after I encountered the same issue
you did)

Thank you. There seem to be similarities and connections between your answer and the one above. I'll see how it/they work.

it's a PROTECTIVE STORAGE SYSTEM problem.... to fix it you have to delete that bad registry file... ask in here for PROTECTIVE STORAGE SYSTEM and they'll give you instructions to fix it. It fixes Outlook password issues and Auto-complete issues. It fixed my problems for both issues.

It's Protected Storage System Provider in the registry.
