Auto Updates keeps installing Malicious S/w Removal Tool -(30 tim

OS: XP Pro.
Automatic Updates is set to automatically search for new updates daily at 13
Hours.

Whenever I turn my PC on (at any time) I get the yellow shield in the
systray informing me that there is an update ready for me to install.
Naturally I click to install it.
When I turn my PC off there is a security center shield on the 'Turn Off'
button telling me that it will install when I turn off.
Again, I naturally turn off and the PC goes through the process of telling
me it's installing one update, then turns off.

However, minutes after turning my PC on again, the yellow shield is back!

The update is the MALICIOUS SOFTWARE REMOVAL TOOL (KB890830).
I have manually run express updates from the MS Updates site - which too
found theis update for me.
I have manually run it from the download site. And even saved the .exe file
to my PC.

Yet every time I turn off my PC I'm told it's installing one update.
And every time I turn on my PC I'm told there is one update ready for me!

My update history shows I have received this update 30 times in the past 8
days!

I don't want to turn off Automatic Updates but
how else can I stop it?

Thanks in advance

HI;

Do the following:

1) Start Internet Explorer
2) Click Tools---> Automatic Updates
3) Check and expand the update KB890830 in the list after selecting
Custom option
4) Select "Do not install or prompt option

You will never be prompted for this option again. Incidentally, do you
have any anti-spyware software installed? Reply me on my email address
since I am seeing a lot of these cases and I am researching it. Your
input will help me.

Thanks;

Anuj
