Auto Update

I am working on WinXP Pro (SP2). I have disabled Automatic Updates
from Control Panel since I prefer doing it manually. Because I have
disabled Automatic Updates, an icon (looks like a shield with a X in
between & red in color) always appears next to the time in the
Taskbar.

How do I get rid of that icon from there?

I tried ending the process by opening Task Manager & after selecting
wscntfy.exe, right-clicked it & clicked both "End Process" & "End
Process Tree" but it doesn't make any difference. The process gets
terminated for less than a second & re-appears in the Task Manager &
the icon too re-appears in the Taskbar.

Go to Security Center in Control Panel and look into the item "change
the way..."

Thank you so very much Grumpy Uncle.....that icon sitting next to the
time was a tad too irritating for me.....it was an eyesore...

Regards,

RON
