Hello :-)

As you can see in this screenshot,

http://www.cloudchasershaconage.furtopia.org/temporary1/autoupdate.gif

my auto updater is set to run at 6pm every day. The reason I chose that
time is because my laptop is nearly always on at that time of day and I am at
home on cable. The problem is that it doesn't always run at that time and
sometimes runs when I'm away from home and on dialup. Needless to say, that
can be a pain. How do I get it to only run at the time I select?

Also, I plan to have a friend who is experienced in doing so to wipe my HD
then install just WinXP and I'll install only the programs I want. Where can
I get a WinXP disc made for just that purpose? I looked at microsoft.com,
but it's not as easy to find as it seems like it would/should be

Thanx in advance :-)

You don't really need to Wipe/Re-install. What you can do is run the
Add/Remove programs applet from Control Panel to remove all the
programs you don't use or want. Whatever you decide to do, be sure
that your personal data is backed up before letting your friend work
on your PC.
Daily checks for updates isn't really necessary. Microsoft schedules
it's releases for the 2nd Tuesday of every month. That being said, just
yesterday they released an "Out-of-Schedule" fix for the WMF issue.
You might want to change Automatic Updates to "Notify, not install"
this way you'll know when something is available - but it will be up to
you to choose the actual time to download/install.

You can't. It's flawed. Update manually every second Tuesday of the
month, although if you haven't gotten an update in the past two days, go
to Windows Update as there is a critical update there out of the normal
second Tuesday of the month schedule.

From this I assume you were not given a copy of XP when you bought the
computer and it came with a lot of programs you didn't ask for. If this
is the case, you can only buy a copy of XP to install just XP.
