Auto Update anomaly(?)

R

Rob

My xp machine is set up (or so I thought!) to automatically apply any updates.
This morning it popped up the message that it had done so. I noted that the # was 5683.
I manually updated my w2kPro m/c and found the # to be 5685.

Went back and manually (re-)updated the xp machine and the # changed to 5685.

Is this a Beta "thing" or am I missing something obvious?

This is a known bug in the display in Help About.

This is what I saw:

I had a message from autoupdate, which stated that the new version was 5683
(this was today or yesterday!)

I went to Help, about, and saw that the update date and time were correct,
but the version number was 5683.

I did a file, check for updates, which did no update, but stated that
everything was current.
Subsequent to that check, Help, about had the correct version number in it.

Bug--thanks for the reports--Microsoft is aware of this one.

I suppose it should be comforting that we believe these silly machines to be
correct most of the time!

The update version number changes when you use Help, About MSAS, and
click the Diagnostic button, also, FWIW.

Interesting--thanks! I'd never noticed the bug until Steve Dodson mentioned
it, and now I see it EVERYWHERE!

Yep - that's the behavior I saw, with the additional filip that it was
AutoUpdate that originally told me it had successfully updated to 5683 when
I knew it had to have meant 5685.

I didn't notice that. I was too busy with something else to read it that
carefully.
