Auto turn off of computer

I recently upgraded from Win 98 SE to Windows XP with
service pack 1. I had a few driver issues which have been
resolved. Problem I have is that XP will not
automatically turn off the Monitor and Computer like Win
98 SE did! It comes to a final banner screen with a
message alot like windows 95 did " It's now safe to turn
off your computer"

Question is is there a setting anywhere that allows XP to
automatically shut down my Monitor and Computer?

It's a function of the Power management that XP chose when
it installed. Your PC's BIOS informed Windows that it could
use ACPI ( A new methodology) instead of APM. However,
the BIOS may not be totally compliant with ACPI standards.
That's why you get the screen with "It's not safe.....". XP tries
to shutdown with ACPI calls that the machine cannot execute.

Open Control Panel, Power and if a APM tab is present,
Click that tab and check "Enable APM Support'. If the APM
tab isn't present you'll have to install the APM system driver.

Check your Power options & post back if no APM tab is
found.
