auto text in footer

for some reason the auto text option in my footer is now dull gray, meaning
it is no longer an option. I want to insert the file path in my documents but
something has turned it off. I have had my disk reformatted and the programs
put on again but it failed to fix it.

This implies that you have no autotext entries defined in the paragraph
style used for header/footer. A common reason is saving a document as
normal.dot. Rename normal.dot to oldnormal.dot to return to defaults.
