Auto shut off

My notebook computer suddently shuts off automatically. The intervals are
irregular, i.e. 5 mins to 1 hr. It does not seem to be power off as when I
turn on the computer again, there was no question asking if boot-up executes
normally. What should I check before I send for repair? I have no idea if
it is caused by software or hardware.

Thanks for your advice. What should I look for in event log? In addition,
I notice that when I use intenet to surf the website and auto shut off has
higher frequency.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

An irritation when opening your posts is the suggestion one needs to
install a Chinese language pack to read the message. It gives the option
to say Yes or Cancel. Opting to Cancel, your message opens seeming with
no error. Are you using a Chinese language version of XP?

Scott,
Double-click on one of the event log names listed in the left pane of event
viewer. Review the log, looking for events marked as "failure" or
"warning".

RtClk on an "interesting" event. Select Properties from the context menu.
You will receive a brief explanation of the event. At the end of the
explanation will be a link which will give you still more info regarding the
event.
