Is there a way to set up a auto response in Outlook?

I like to have e-mail sent to one of my addresses receive an automatic
response without me having to do anything. How would you set this up in
Outlook XP?

With an autoreply rule. Be careful - it will reply to everyone, including
spammers, and if you aren't careful to have it autoreply only once per
sender, you may get into a mail loop war. You might exclude autoreply for
messages with undeliverable, failed, (etc) in the subject line.

Or see if your ISP offers an autoreply service so Outlook doesn't have to be
running.
