Auto redial is set but doesn't work

My ISP, Earthlink, is dropping my dialup connection once a day, and up until recently the "auto redial when
connection is dropped" was working fine. Then it stopped working and I've checked in the properties section
of the particular dial up telephone number and it's set to redial. Is there a global setting somewhere that
I'm missing? I'd appreciate some suggestions about this problem, it's getting very obnoxious.

With IE open, go to Tools > Options > Connection. Check always dial my
default connection.
