auto recovery in excel 2003

I accidentally misspelled a new file location to auto recover in Excel 2003
(options/tools/auto recover file location). Now the whole options box is
frozen. I just get an error "cannot find location in directory" whenever i
try to make any changes. I cannot change this is Safe mode, because you
cannot save preference changes while in Safe Mode, right? So what can i do? I
have even uninstalled excel, and re-installed it completely. It still says
the same thing.

Hi Annamaria,

You could do it in the registry.

- Open the registry (start, run, regedit)
- Have it create a backup just in case: File, Export, enter a filename and save)
- Then find this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options

(the number is for Excel 2003, for XP it is 10.0)

Double click on it and change it to a path you know for sure exists.
