Auto-purge IMAP folders?

Outlook's (2003) implementation of IMAP is a little funky to me. Messages
that are deleted or moved are marked with a strikethrough and are not removed
until I hit the Purge button. Is there a way to just "auto-purge", or
otherwise have moved or deleted messages simply skip the
"limbo/strikethrough" stage?

ME TOO! This has been driving me crazy for months. Every few weeks I break
down and scour the menus looking for a solution in vain.

I recently switched computers (same version of MS Outlook). On my old
computer I had it figured out so that when I hit "delete" it automatically
deleted the item (instead of strikethrough followed by a manual purge).
Somehow I just can't find that setting again.

It's driving me absolutely nuts that I have to continually purge my deleted
messages. When I delete an item I want to DELETE the thing, not mark it for
later deletion.

What's crazy is that there is even a default setting that warns you before
you purge an item after deleting it. "We know this is the second time you've
tried to delete these items, are you really, really sure you want to delete
them for good? Promise?" With this handy feature you effectively need to
delete an item THREE TIMES before you're actually rid of it.

Quit protecting me from myself and let me delete mail I don't want!

Does anyone have a solution here? Please?

Frustrated,

Then you weren't using an IMAP account on the old computer because there is
no such setting.

That's the way IMAP works. If you want different behavior you'll have to
use a different account type.

I've heard tell that there are other IMAP mail clients that mask the IMAP
delete/purge methods by always issuing a purge after a queue for deletion.
Perhaps you should switch to one of those.
