Auto Printers

We are running a Windows 2000 Server and a dozen Windows XP computers.

For some reason, when I add a new printer to the Server and share it, the
printer is not automatically showing up on the connected computers. I would
swear that they used to appear as "Auto Printer on Server01".

When I check Folder Options/View on the XP computers, the option for
"Automatically search for network folders and printers" is selected, but no
automatic printers are appearing.

Am I missing something? (Other than the shared printers I mean) :-)

Thanks in advance for the help.

James

Jameseee:
On each of the client computers that need access to the printer, map the
shared printer manually. go to control panel - printers and faxes, run the
add new printer wizard and specify the network path to the machine
IE:
\\<machine name>\<printer share name>

Hi Geoff,

I have the same problem on a smaller scale. You're solution is the obvious
one, and already tried.

The problem is that the on the resulting printer icon, many of the network
printer properties are greyed out, whereas with auto printers they are not.
Also I presume Jameseee doesn't want go around and install a the printer on a
dozen computers when the system should be doin' the auto thang.

How do we make it do it. Got the folder options set right.

Regards,

Rick.
