I'm running a network of a couple dozen boxes running XP Pro SP2, all
joined in a workgroup. I connected an HP 2100 printer to one of these
machines and shared the printer with the intent of setting it up on two
other machines on the workgroup. However, now when I go to some of the
other machines on the workgroup, there is already a printer on those
machines called "Auto HP 2100n on <computer name>". I have *not* set
this printer up myself -- it was generated without any user intervention.
Does anyone know how this happened, or more appropriately, how to keep
it from happening? I've looked all through the printer's configuration
and all through the sharing pages and can't find anything related to
automatic printer setups on other machines on the network.
Most of my experience with networks larger than a few machines has been
on domain-based systems, so this may very well just be something about
working on a workgroup and I've never seen it before. Any advice would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
