Auto Play AUTOPLAY fails to run Windows XP-Pro

I cannot get auto ply to run using my card reader. I have it set to
take an action always when a card with pictures is inserted. It does
not do that. It does nothing.
In fact, even when I insert a CD with an auto run install it does
nothing. I do have auto play on CD enabled and I have been having no
luck at all with auto play. I am running XP-Pro SP2. This happened
also in SP1. Any ideas? If I go to the properties of a drive it says
that the correct action is set, but nothing.
