auto numbering sequencing when doc. opens

I am looking for a way to have a number in sequence appear on a form document
when it's opened. So each time someone opens that document and it fills in
with a new number automaticly.

Thank you, after reading it, I can now figure out what I was doing wrong.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you! But, if I have a locked
form so that users can only fill in the specified fields, I get an error
message that will not allow the macro to number the doc. Any suggestions,
besides unlocking the form?

protected / locked form, I get an error. The macro cannot assign a number to
a locked form. Any suggestions?
