Auto & Manual Updater Not Functioning

I am using Dial-Up to connect to the internet.

Running WINXP SP2, Firewall Enabled, No other firewalls
or routers.

I get the error stating that the Updates failed due to no
Internet connection available. I have gone so far as
connecting to the MS AntiSpyware home page before
attempting the update and still get the error.

Any suggestions?

Sun Java VM? Non-MS browser, like firefox? Try later, server down?
