I have a couple of doc files that I sort or use as templates. They are
formatted with a title at the top etc. I save them using a new name.doc for
whatever I create when I use it.

I would like to auto insert - or better said, have Word auto insert - the
new name of a file into the footer whenever I save the document with a new
name.

Can I do this with standard Word? i.e without being a VBA coder?

If so, how?

While in the footer, click INSERT in the menu and select FIELD. In the list
of fields select DOCUMENT INFORMATION and select FileName.

Adding the \p switch to the field adds the full path to the filename
