Auto filling email recipient address

Sometimes, when I type the first few letters of a person's email address and
their info is in already my contacts file, the rest of their address fills
in. Sometimes it does not. Does anyone know why this is?

Also, is there a way to stop every person you send an email to from
automatically being put in your contacts list? I send out a lot of emails,
but I don't necessarily want them in my contact list--I just end up having to
delete them. Thanks for your help!

This is known as the auto-complete feature. It does not work very well
in Windows Mail. Windows Mail only remembers the last 29 recipients
that you have sent mail to. There's no way to fix it unless you upgrade to
Windows Live Mail.

Go to Tools, Options, Send, uncheck the third option; make sure the
fourth option is checked.

Well, these boxes were already checked as you had advised. But address
completion still does not fill in. Reversing the process and restarting
Mail still does not fill in the address.

I think my previous reply (which you quoted) explains what is
going on, and what the only fix is.

Maybe in some instances, but maybe not in all. Does not work on mine.

So you upgraded to Windows Live Mail and it did not work for you?

Are you kidding me, outlook express with 7 year old technology did a better
job at auto completion that vista mail does!

what is up with that scenario??

Non sequitur. I was speaking about Windows Live Mail, which is a
newer (and arguably better) e-mail program than Windows Mail.
