auto contact address

on my old outlook i use to be able to just hit the first letter of a contact
and it would put the address in. can this be set up in vista.

yes, it is already preset to do this, you can check this by selecting options and then sending. There you will find a checked box that says automatically complete e-mail addresses when composing. However, in order for this to work you need to first hand select each recipient at least once. What a pain!

The auto-complete function in Windows Mail doesn't use your address book
(contacts). It only remembers the last 29 recipients you've sent mail to.
If you want this function to work better, upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
