auto complete

How do I turn auto complete off...don't mind it for web pages, but want to
turn it off for screen names, forms, passwords, searches and so on? I've
tried to turn it off via content tab in the internet connections/temp
internet files area. I've done this through the control panel/internet
connections as well as in the Internet Explorer (via the shortcut on the
desktop). I've also cleared the "forms" and "passwords". I've done this
while logged on and off. I've restarted MSN and restarted the computer. I
have not actually found this "content" tab in the MSN browswer I'm logged on
to (does it actually use the IE?).

Does anyone know why it's not being turned off? Am I missing something? I
would appreciate any help that can be given. Thanks.

Hi,
What's being filled in? If you've cleared forms, usernames and passwords and
unchecked forms, usernames and passwords (and restarted at least once)
Autocomplete should be off. Does autocomplete occur on all sites or just a
few sites?

Might the Google toolbar be autofilling/storing this data?

Well....the sites I know for sure are being "autocompleted"...are Google (for
searches) and My Space (checking up on the kids)....for screen names,
passwords and searches. I just checked and the search for this web site also
auto completes.

I have cleared forms, usernames and passwords and have restarted a couple of
times but everything is still there and being completed. I also have
unchecked the autocomplete for websites just to see if it would work and
no....when putting in a website on the msn browser, it does still try to
complete it for me.

Any advice? I'd appreciate it.

Hi Shonn,

Are you sure you unchecked all checkboxes in IE, Tools, Internet Options,
Content, Autocomplete ?

If so, it must be some third party tool you installed.

Yeah, I'm sure. I just did it again to make extra sure. That being the
case, if it is a third party thing....how do I find out which one. I don't
recall ever installing something that had autocomplete as an option and I
just went through the "uninstall programs" list in the control panel and
didn't see anything I thought would do it. Could it be the Norton Antivirus
program? I didn't see any options that included autocomplete and even with
that disabled, it was still the same.

Anyhow...any ideas on how to find a third party program that is keeping me
from turning off the autocomplete?

Thanks.

Hi,
You're using the MSN Explorer version of Internet Explorer, aren't you? From
Control Panel> Internet Options> Content> Autocomplete. Uncheck Autocomplete
options, then clear forms and passwords. Close IE.

That should turn off autocomplete. To clear previously saved data you may
have to select each username or search term in the drop-down autocomplete
box (just put the pointer on it) and hit the Delete key.

Also see this Google Groups search
