Authentication Tab does not appear on Local Area Connection Properties

I am trying to develop an 802.1x security solution using 3Com switches
authenticating to a Window 2003 IAS server acting as a RADIUS server.

All communications between the switch and the IAS server are working
correctly, so the final piece of the puzzle is to setup proper 802.1x
client configuration on my Windows XP notebook.

When I go to the properties of my Network Connection using the
built-in Intel 10/100 Ethernet port on my Dell Inspiron 8000, I do NOT
see an Authentication tab.

On my desktop Dell Optiplex GX260, I see the Authentication tab
without any problem.

Does anyone know why I do not get an Authentication tab for the
Ethernet connection on this notebook? It's important to get this
working so that I can enable 802.1x on this unit as a prototype for
general student notebook connectivity.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
