Authentication issues with new domain when using VPN

I recently setup a new domain, migrated all servers and user laptops to the
new domain, and demoted/removed the old domain. Now I'm having an issue with
users being able to map drives to my servers from home using our VPN client.
They either cannot authenticate or they get an error that the network path
was not found. This just started on Wednesday yet I made the domain switch
on last Friday. It's not my VPN client as I'm able to ping the server's
private IP address without issue. I just can't map a drive.

My concern is that the removal of the old domain and AD didn't go cleanly.
I've checked all my share's security settings to allow domain users and
admin access but I'm still having these issues.

Any suggestions on where to look?

did you try mapping the drive to the server fully qualified domain name? Or
to their IP address to rule out name resolution as being the cause of your
problem? If you can do either of those, i would say you have a DNS issue
