I accidently deleted the program that comes pre installed that makes the
speakers work. I am using a Widows XP Professional. I would like to fix this
problem.

Everett Lewis,

Any chance you remember the name of this program?

Do you have a yellow exclamation in Device Manager that says UNKNOWN DEVICE?
Example: unknown multimedia device

What you maybe able to do is go to Windows Update & see if that site
discovers the correct hardware & then will give you a valid driver download
to install, but would have thought that the automatic update would have
pushed it to your machine anyway if its turned on.

Windows Update Site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Another way you can do it is like this:

If the multimedia is onboard then get the model number of your motherboard
by opening the side of your computer, go to the manfuacturers site &
download the application.

If you have a seperate graphics card you can find out the model of it & then
go to that site to get the drivers, but if you know for example its a Sound
Blaster then you can go to their site & use the auto update tool
(http://www.soundblaster.com/support/) to find your correct chipset...

If you use a Dell machine you can go to their site, type your model number &
it will list all the correct drivers too

I hope this helps,

Since your sound came preinstalled, you probably have an OEM machine
like a Dell, HP, Sony, etc. You can reinstall the drivers from either a
CD that came with your computer or by going to the computer mftr.'s
website and downloading/installing the audio drivers.

Do not install drivers from Windows Update.

If you need more help with this, post back with the make and model of
your computer.

Malke,

What are wrong with Windows Update drivers?

I have used them on 1000's of machines to get me by without problems before
I could get to the manufacturers site to get the latest drivers.

The user said he deleted a program. For all we know it could be a CD player
application, but is more likely drivers I admit.

People complain that I give complicated answers but when I give a easy
alternative people like you don't like that either.

If the user goes through my original instructions then a simple Google
search & he will be in business having the make/model or if onboard the
chipset.
