Audio/Video...what the hell?

A. Patel

I have tried burning my video on to a CD over a dozen
times, but I get the same result: at seemingly random
times, it locks up on a visual but the audio continues to
the end. Sometimes, if it freezes on a picture, the
picture is flipped upside-down.
I've looked on PapaJohn's site and on other sites,
but I couldn't find anything about this particular
problem.
I'm not sure if I described the problem accurately,
so if you need clarification, I won't be surprised.
Thanks for your time.

I don't want to overload you with questions but here are some questions to
see if we can narrow down the problem.
Does this problem happen on all projects or just this one? What does your
timeline look like? Do you have a lot of transistions between clips? Have
you tried just publishing the timeline to a WMV file on your local machine
to see if it also happens or is it only when you save to a CD?
Could you try saving the movie as a DV-AVI file to see if that still shows
the problem?

Hi there,

This could be a codec issue. Some codecs for out of date DVD or media
editors/players can cause serious problems.

In order to eliminate the above possibility you can download from the
video section of my website (www.the-kellys.org) and download the codec
renaming utility...its a self extracting, self installing file. If after
running it it lists any files, select them and click RENAME. You are advised
that for best chances of this working you should reboot your computer.
Whether it works or not, use the restore option to rename the codecs.

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

1.) No, I saved a previous movie perfectly fine.
2.) The timeline is 10 minutes long and the only
transitions are clips overlapping to blend and fade.
3.) Either the same thing happens when I save it to my
computer or it doesn't save at all.
4.) I don't know how to save it as a DV-AVI file to a CD,
but when I tried doing that for my hard drive it gave me
an error message that says, "Windows Movie Maker cannot
save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the
original source files used in your movie are still
available, that the saving location is still available,
and that there is enough free disk space available, and
then try again."

Thanks for the response. I understand that these
questions are necessary in order to solve my program. One
more question: are there any programs that can import the
WMM file directly without changing it, and then just burn
it from there?

When you say the same things happen or it doesn't save at all. What happens
when it doesn't save? Do you get an error message?

There are no other programs I know of that can read in the MovieMaker
project format. However there are programs that can read in WMV and DV-AVI
files and create DVD's and Video CD's. Do you want to do that or just copy
the WMV file to a CD? There's a bunch of information about this on
PapaJohn's website under CD Burning... and DVD Software see
http://www.papajohn.org

If you do want to create a DV-AVI file you can do that by going to Other
settings: on the Movie Setting page within the Save Movie Wizard and
selecting DV-AVI from the list. (If Other settings: isn't visible then click
on Show more choices...). It sounds like you may have already tried this
though. Did you have enough free hard space for the DV-AVI file? DV-AVI
files tend to be much larger than WMV files so they do require a lot more
hard disc space.

What speed processor do you have on your machine? Do you happen to have a 2
processor machine?

Sorry if I have more questions then answers
