AUDIO/VIDEO 6.1 & MN-700 HELP

M

Matthew

I recently purchased the MN-700 to give my network
firewall and NAT protection as well as allow audio and
video through MSN Messenger 6.1. I recently downloaded
the newest version of MSN Messenger. I also downloaded
the newest firmware and software for my MN-700.
Additionally, I have disabled the built in firewall in
XP. I have even read the article on Jonathan Kay's
website and opened the 14 ports required with TCP
connections for Messenger as instructed. (I shouldn't
have to do that if MN-700 is UPnP compliant correct). At
any rate that is my configuration. I am fairly tech
saavy and able to find my way around both XP and network
protocol. So don't be afraid to explain in detail with
acronyms!!! LOL so here's what happening----

When we connect with video conference:
I can see and hear them, they cannot see or hear me.
When we connect with only webcam:
They can see me and I can see them.
When we connect audio only:
I can hear them, they cannot hear me.
When we connect webcam and audio simulaneously &
independently:
I can see and hear them, they can see me, but cannot
hear me.

My primary contacts are running Windows XP, both of us
are using SBC DSL, and both have the latest version of
Messenger. They do not have ICF up and are using a
direct broadband connection (No firewall/router/gateway).
Additionally, I CAN see my microphone monitor go up and
down when i talk they cannot!

Hope that is enough information for you guys!

Greetings Matthew,

Yes, you do not need to forward any ports (in fact, remove the 14 I have on that article,
they may actually conflict).

To solve this problem, you and your contact might try turning off the QoS Packet Scheduler.
To do so, click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network
and Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right click your network/internet
connection, then click Properties. Uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, then reboot and try
again.

I have recently read this at a DELL consumer board,
clarification would be appreciated:

"I solved my problem on the 17/12/2003 after installing a
revised version of RTCDLL.DLL (Version 5.1.2600), as
referred to in an earlier post. I have just discovered
that Microsoft has just produced an updated version of
MSN Messenger 6.1, Version 6.1.0207 dated 18/12/2003 and
the RTCDLL.DLL file it uses is Version 5.1.2600!!!"

Thanks for your help

Hi Matthew,

Do *not* replace your RTC DLL. Actually MSN Messenger 6.1 uses its own version of the RTC
DLL in the \Windows\SxS folder (Side by Side) -- people are just looking in the
\Windows\System32 folder, and are just seeing the Windows Messenger 4.x one.

There was an issue with the RTC DLL, Windows 98/Millennium Edition and MSN Messenger *6.0*,
but this has been corrected in 6.1. There is *no* reason to touch this.

Well, I am lost! I didn't touch the file. I have
removed all ports as requested. I still have the same
problems. Neither of us have ICF active.
We have discovered that if they invite me to their web &
conversation, & i am in WINDOWS messenger, it works, but
not MSN messenger! Any thing else you can think of?

That is the same situation/solution I have, Matthew...MSN 6.1 in the UK and
Win Mess on my unit in US. At the same time, my wife's system, networked
with mine and therefore through the same router/cable modem connects with
the same party & MSN Mess 6.1 both directions! We both have identical ZA
firewall & other suggested settings from Jonathan. I can disconnect on my
system, open MSN Mess 6.1 on my wife's, and resume our Vid Con. That is why
I believe some of this problem must be machine configuration.
