Audio Question

I have a dell desktop that the sound just suddenly stopped working. I went
thru device manager and it says that the hardware is working but yet the
sound is still not coming out... any suggestions?

have you checked the speakers are powered and working? the jack hasn't
popped out of the sound card (has happened to me with all the nest of
cables)
are the speakers muted in the volume control setting?

i have unplugged them from the back of the tower and plugged them back in,
you can hear that feedback sound when you turn on the speaks but no real
sound from them.. yes i have checked the mute.. to check the jack you
have to open the terminal right? thats the only think we have not done yet..
