Audio problems

Hi, I was going to watch a movie on my new Vista computer and when i pressed
on play no sound came out of the actors mouths but i could hear the
background noises?
My friend and I spent two hours trying to figure out why, and we were
stumped. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Is it a very old film and was the background noise a piano? They used to
make films like that.

No, it was a 2007 released film. The audio was playing and then my friends
son did something on her computer and when she came back could not get the
sound quality to come on to hear the movie, however she could hear the
background noise.
