Audio Problems

I have an analog video camera. I plugged in all the wires properly, but when
I go to capture video, there is only video, no sound.

In the pull down menu for audio devices, there are two options: Realtek AC97
Audio, and Conexant Falcon Audio Capture. With the Realtek AC97 Audio option,
I can select the audio input source, such as Line In, Line In 2, Mono mix,
ect. I've tried all these options and none of them produce audio.

The video capture device is called Conexant Falcon II NTSC Video Capture, so
it would make sense that the audio device would be Conexant Falcon Audio
Capture.

When I select Conexant Falcon Audio Capture, no options for audio input
source are given. But on the screen before the video capture, when I click
next the screen freezes and will do nothing. As soon as a click around a few
times, it says Not Responding and I have to Ctrl Alt Delete out of the
program. I've tried doing this multiple times, and have rest the computer,
but it keeps happening.

I'm extremley frustrated, what should I do?!

This is happening because Movie Maker was not designed to capture analog
signals. It was designed and works best with firewire but you do have some
options.
You can capture using the Conexant software or you can purchase a digital
pass-through unit such as the Dazzle80. With this unit you hook the analog
camera up to the dazzle using your analog cables and the dazzle is hooked to
a USB port on your computer. This way Movie Maker is actually capturing a
digital signal instead of analog and should work. Don't ask me why using USB
this way works but hooking a digital camera direct to USB usually doesn't
because I have no idea I just know it to be true.

I have the Dazzle 80, and it is very good. Choose the 'mic in' option and
the sound will be ok. I know this because I spent about two hours of
pulling out all my hair, and when that was gone, biting on my nails!
Analog is analog and it won't be digital quality, but in Movie Maker use the
'brighten' and 'contrast' effects to improve it. Good luck!

Not only do I look like a handsome Uncle Fester, a further problem is that my
dentist took my partial AND i've already forgotten what my resolution was.
To heck with movie making, I think I could get a gig on Oprah with this
story! ha ha
