audio playback speed increased

I've recently been assigned a w2k workstation at a new
company. The audio playback speed is increased beyond
what it should be so all sounds are higher in speed and
pitch than normal. All my music sounds like the
Chipmunks. This occurs via the cd drive, local MP3, WMA,
etc. files and also streaming files of various types.
I've never encountered anything like this and don't know
where to turn. Any advice is appreciated.

Install or have your IT support person reinstall the sound card drivers.
