how do I take the audio out of a clip to play the narration?

I tried clicking record narration and also clicked the mute video button but
it still doesnt work.

Also is there any way to overlay a song over a video and take out the audio
of the video?

After dragging the clip to the Video box on the TimeLine the audio should
automatically be placed in the Audio box. Right-click the audio then click
"mute". That's the easy way. Otherwise, you can create a new profile that
does not include audio (see papajohn's wensite http://www.papajohn.org/ go to
Save Movies / Custom WMV profiles), drag the clip the the Video box, save the
movie using the new profile, then import the file you just saved into MM and
drag it to the Video box.
