I had the same problem with a new Dell Dimension E521, solved it by going to
Dell's support site and downloading and installing the audio driver.
Seems to have taken care of everything
on my device manager it says I have soundmax. I went to there site and
couldnt find anything. Im not that good with computers. So, I downloaded
realtek97, but how do i install it? Im confused

You will need to download and install the drivers for whatever sound card,
chip or device is present in your system.
Unfortunately it's hard for me to help you from here - I can't see what you
can see and can't reach your keyboard. ;-) You might want to look for
someone more knowledgeable who is just a bit closer to you and may be able
to assist if the instructions in the driver package and/or on the Web site
aren't very helpful.
