No audio output device

Hi ,
I have an HP NX7400 Notebook on which I've installed Vista Ultimate RTM.
The audio device is a Soundmax integrated device
All is working except for audio . In device manager I see that audio device
should have been recognized , in fact I see a HIgh definition audio device
with microsoft driver. There's also an unrecognized device which could also
be the sound card.

On the taskbar there's a speaker icon with a red X and the message " no
audio output device is installed " . Obviously the speakers are builtin.
I've not been able to find a vista driver for soundmax .
Has anyone had such problem ? How do you solved ?
Thanks

Stefano

You need to check with HP to see if that sound driver is supported in Vista.
Try to update the driver:
Open the driver.
Click "Driver" tab
Click "Update Driver"
You can also try Windows/Microsoft Update.

Already tried the HP site and windows update with no luck , I was wondering
if anyone has found some drivers which could work . Otherwise I'll wait
until HP will release its own drivers
thanks
