Audio device failure

Lost my media player, but found it thanks to newsgroup. Now cant play music
and says that audio device not working. Uninstalled then reinstalled and PC
detected device but still no sound. When I turn on speakers there is a hum
from them. Could the audio card need replacing?

To identify the sound device, go to start run, and type:

MSINFO32 /category ComponentsDisplay

Click the "Sound Device" item in the left pane, and then read the name of the sound device in the right pane. Use this in Device
Manager.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the Sound device, Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the
device drivers again automatically.
