Audio CD Skipping

Greetings! I need help!

When I load an audio CD (brand new, whatever), my Windows
Media player (version 9.00.00.3075) skips and the track
sounds choppy. I'm pretty sure I've downloaded all the
updates, installed, rebooted... nothing seems to work.

I did load the Real One player, but have since deleted it
through the "Add or Remove programs" prompt in the Control
Panel.

I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.

I should also add that this is a recent phenomena... the
music files I had burned onto my hard drive play fine;
this just started happening within the past two months...
for what it's worth, I think it happened right after I
installed the most recent version of WMP.
