Regarding the SP1 Update 817778 for Windows XP - Is this
update necessary if you are not on a network? I
read in the description that it would enable the
Microsoft firewall, but I have a firewall running
continually. I have been hesitant about installing this
update, but keep up to date on all other updates. I also
am running Norton Anti-virus software.

Hi Lapsgal,

If you have a firewall enabled then it cannot be true
that you are not on a network.

The Advanced Network Package for XP is an entirely
optional install. If you are not needing to use IP v6
(most all of the internet is currently IP v4) and you are
not planning to develop applications based on the XP
peer-to-peer framework, then you have no need for this.
