Attatchment of any kind will not open in Windows Mail

I have searched all the discussions on this and haven't found anything that
works for me.
Is it possible to uninstall and then re-install Windows Mail?
How would I do that?

No, you would have to reinstall Vista in order to reinstall Windows Mail.

There is a very laborious way of resetting the data structures of
Windows Mail. Follow this procedure:

Frankly, you'd be much better off to simply upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
