Attachments as .dat?

I have created a form template to send my emails from MS outlook 2003
but the problem is while the attachments I send can be read from another
PC with MS outlook just fine, when they are read online (from a webmail)
they have the extension .dat! This happens mostly with .rar and .zip files.

how can I avoid this?

Thanks in advance,
pnp

Yes, you can avoid this by sending your messages in Plain Text or HTML
instead of Rich Text. It is the Rich Text format that causes this.

You should not use a custom form to send messages unless you know the
recipients are using Outlook. Composing a message with a custom form -- even
if the mail format is plain text or HTML -- results in a Winmail.dat
attachment being sent along with the message to capture the rich-text format
information needed for the form, and this attachment will also contain any
files you attached. Only Outlook can read the Winmail.dat file.
