Hi,

When the windows starts, and just before the desktop icons
appear I get a dialogue box containing the phrase: "Failed
to open registry handle ATIpole". Please tell me how to
resolve this problem.

Please Note: All windows pro updates are in place.

Is this in relation to the ATI video card? Your comments
will be appreciated.

Seems to be an Xpert 2000 video card problem
First, install the latest DirectX9b from MS:
http://www.microsoft.com/homepage/ms.htm
Click on DirectX 9.0b under "Downloads".
You should be okay with DX8, but DX9b is all that MS
currently offers. Video drivers are written for certain
levels of DirectX. Some driver installers engines won't
check for the proper version of DirectX first, so it's
best to have the latest before installing the video
drivers.

Then,
Download new drivers from ATI:
http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
ATI RAGE 128 PRO chipset is on the Xpert2000Pro.

If you still have problems, uninstall the display drivers
and software and reboot. Then reinstall the new drivers.
