ATI X600 problem

I just got a 'new to me' Dell Optiplex GX620 computer. It has a low-profile
X600 (possibly an SE) in it.

I did a clean install of XP Home and install the 6.9 drivers (including Net
2.0).

When I boot the machine when connected to my DVI monitor (Dell 2405FPW), I
see the Dell logo and then the Windows is booting screen.

Then it tries to switch to the Windows screens and it goes dark. The
monitor doesn't power down, so it thinks something is happening, but there
is nothing on the screen.

If I use the DVI->VGA adapter and plug it into a VGA monitor, it works fine.

Weird.

Any suggestions?

Well, I got it to at least display at low-res. I installed 6.8, but suspect
6.9 would also work once I set the res to 1024x768 on the VGA monitor.

BUT

It wouldn't work at 1920x1200. Even with the Dell inf file.

I finally played around and turned off Alternate DVI operational mode and
that fixed it. Don't have a clue why on is the default if it doesn't work!
