ATI Vid card driver install difficulties

N

Nate

First, thanks for reading this.

after a fresh install of XPpro i installed all the latest
updates from Microsoft. then installed my motherboard
drivers.

after reboot my vid card was automatically detected and
it's drivers installed without my consent (the little icon
appeared in the taskbar).

I uninstall them through device manager and go into SM,
but it keeps installing the windows-selected driver.

I've searched and searched and cannot seem to find an
answer that works. I've tried disabling UPnP, but then
the driver install won't run.

My computer runs fine with windows own driver, but i'd
like the catalyst from ati.

again thanks.

Hi,

First, download the latest XP compatible Catalyst drivers of your vedio card from Ati.com and safe it to a specific folder.
Change the display resolution to VGA mode and remove the existing display drivers if you can find it in the add or remove program then reboot. (Note: if you cannot find the display drivers in the add or remove program, go to device manager after the reboot and uninstall the Ati display adapter and then reboot again)
During reboot, press the F8 key to boot in safe mode and login as administrator, open the specific folder and double click the catalyst driver icon to install the drivers, reboot when prompted.
The Ati display drivers should be properly installed; change the display resoution at your desire.

Hope it helps.

Peter
