in the multimedai center configuration I noticed everything is taken
over by ATI......How and Why....and how do I fix it. I deleted all the
file extentions in windows explorer and then remapped them to the
appropriate programs but I still see ATI has control

You must go to file types, probably get there from customizing my desktop
(just use the help file to find out how to get there--search for "file
types" or "file associations" or something similar) and associate the
particular files with the program you want them to open with.

Does seem to be a bit of an association hog (I never install the ATI CD
player because I have better and it's the worst of the lot for association
hogging). But click on each entry in Configuration and you should get a
dropdown giving you the option to select that ATI app or the app you
previously had associated.

In XP go to control panel then folder options. There you can set file
associations to whatever application you want/
