ATI thinks no DMA

I have an ATI AIW 9600XT. Everything seems OK except for the fact that when
the TV program starts, it always states that the personal VCR requires DMA
set on the HDs and that the HDs in the drop down list of the dialog do not
have DMA set, which, of course, is untrue. I can make the message go away,
but wonder why this happens?

Thanks,
Hark

Because that app doesn't work correctly. Check in "My Computer", Device
Mgr.
If it shows DMA set, just forget the ATI test.

As already mentioned this is likely due to a software bug with MMC - it has
problems correctly detecting DMA status (as well as SMP setups) and often
gets lost altogether with RAID cards/SCSI drives. Just to be on the safe
side, you could ensure the latest motherboard/HDD Controller chipset drivers
are installed. If this is already the case then I suggest that you email
their tech support dept asking for it to be fixed (I've done this already
but many hands make light work). If this pops up every time the TV App is
started, does this prohibit you from *unattended* scheduled recording? If
this is the case then in my opinion it's something which ATI should fix
pronto because it's more than cosmetic and the product isn't meeting your
needs.

It has problems with recognising DMA mode on some chipset drivers,
especially nVIDIA.

Thanks for all the responses. I have to agree with those that identified
this as an MMC bug. It causes me no inconvenience or performance
degradation, and I am able to turn off the warning. I just felt it best to
post and verify that no issues are involved (other than false DMA detection
on the part of MMC).

Thanks again,
Hark
