ATI Rebate-Anyone know how to get then to honor one?

Apparently they have no honor. On 9/22/06 I bought an ATI video card
that had a rebate and immediately sent it in. Six weeks later a
checked on it and their (well known scumbag) fulfillment people in
Young America said they had no record of it and I should resubmit it.
I mailed it to them in mid-November. At the end of December I called
again and was again told they didn't have it. I complied with all the
requirements and have copies of everything to prove.

The probability that the USPS lost BOTH submissions is virtually zero.
Then I sent a fax to ATI explaining the situation and didn't hear from
them. I then called their corpoarate offices at which point they took
all the info and said someone would contact me. Another lie.

Too bad, I thought since ATI is in Canada. But wait, AMD is in the US
so I can go after them.

It's bad enough that ATI uses these weasels for fulfillment, but their
denial of any responsibility puts them in the same class.

Just freakin great, this is the second submission i have heard from
somebody with the same 'effin problem. i had allready bought a card
thru compusa with a $50 rebate thru young america and sent it in when i
read about there problems getting there rebate from young america. i
had a bad feeling since, and now its pretty much confirmed i am screwed
also. i dont even have the interest to call anymore because i dont want
to be disappointed. if it was anything like (maybe) $20 or less it
would be one thing, but $50 is a scam, i would have never purchased
that damn card for over $200 in the first place if that rebate didnt
bring it down to under 200. total rip-off. i could have dealt thru
new-egg and had twice the card. if this doesn't eventualy pan out (to
where i get my rebate) im never buying another ati card again. as sure
as hell not thru compusa with a false rebate scam. all this after
following a friends suggestion!

Live and learn, as they say. Treat all mail-in rebates with a grain of salt,
from *any* manufacturer.

You guys must be pretty young. I'm old enough to have learned not to make my
purchase decision based on *mail-in* rebate. Unless I get a discount at the
time of a purchase, it's not a discount in my book.

As others have said, if you can't afford it without the rebate, then don't
buy it. As far as ATI's integrity, well, they don't have any. I recently
ordered another power cable for my 800XL for $23.00 (for what isn't much
more than an HD cable splitter). When I got it, I found that it wouldn't fit
my card. What DOES fit my card is the cable listed for the 9800 Pro.
ATI told me tough luck, no refunds, even though the website screwed up.

Case closed. I learned my lesson with ATI.

Why would you spend $23 for a power cable splitter when you can buy
them at just about any good computer shop for around $5.

Although it looks like a normal splitter that has connectors for an HD and a
floppy, a normal splitter will not work. That's how ATI can get away with
charging $23. There's that nasty integrity thing again...

There is nothing different with the power splitter, they are all wired
the same way. It's a set industry standard. A Molex connector and you
can get them spilt in many ways, one Molex and on floppy or split to
two Molex. Also can get it split for one Molex and one PCIex six pin
as well.

So you're telling me you tried a universal splitter on the x800xl and it
worked?

Worked on the 800 Pro 256mb card I had.

That's surprising. It certainly won't on the 800xl. This, according to
personal experience, ATI and others who have experienced the same issue.

The Molex connector (type used in hard drives) is a standard
connection. Now I have seen some of these spilters that are very hard
to plug in. Taking a little muscle to plug in. They will only go in
one way but still are hard to put in. But they are the same, wired the
same. If they weren't wired the same way it would either cause
shorting problems on hard drives or power supplys. The same holds true
for the small four pin floppy connector that is also used on some ATi
cards. Wired the exact same as would be used on a floppy drive.

The 800XT (the proper name, and I may have confused the two...could be my
1800XL) has the floppy connecter for the card, but a normal splitter will
not work. With the normal splitter, occasionaly the system starts, but most
times the flashing red text appears stating no power for the card. I don't
know what the difference is, but it is somehow different.
This issue was discussed sometime back (here, I think, or perhaps some
forum).
