ATI radeon9800 problems make the card SUCK

T

Tom

I have a radeon 9800 pro. It is on my MSI KT3 Ultra 2 mother board w/512 MB
2700 ddr ram, 60GB Maxtor, 30GB Seagate, DVD ROM drive, LG CDRW drive, Sound
Blaster Live (original) soundcard.
When I go to play games such as Quake 3, Medal of Honor and all the add-ons,
Turok... the games are way too dark.
I have asked for help here before, but I mostly got smart assed remarks
back. So, if you cannot help, please don't make a remark.
Thanks.

At the risk of being labeled a smartass, have you tried the gamma slider in
the color tab in the display control panel, settings, advanced? Or maybe the
brightness or gamma settings in the games themselves?

Use the ingame hotkeys that you can create in the ATI Control Panel. It is
under the Color tab.

Without trying to sound like I'm making a smart-assed remark.. you cannot
necessary blame the card for your isue.. most of us with the 9800 don;t have
the same issue so it's clearly something specific to your configuration.
Does it make a difference when you play DirectX/OpenGL games? I assume your
normal desktop non-3d displays are fine which would suggest that it's
perhaps down to something in the driver config in the ATI control panel?

Tom, if you don't want "smart assed remarks" in response to your post, why
do you title it "ATI radeon9800 problems make the card SUCK" and post it in
an ATi ng?

I don't recall your previous post, but if it was along the same lines, I
can't say I'm at all surprised you got "smart assed remarks" in reply.

I noticed in BF1942 if I turn off the mapping option it gets brighter
but then it doesn't look as good so I just crank up the monitor to
50%-55%.

Turn off the room lights/close the curtains. ;p

You are a lieing sack of puss. Or you don't know how to calibrate your
monitor. Which is it? If the latter I suggest you look up "monitor
calibration" on google. Couple of quick tips, you calibrate brightness
to the black point and contrast to the white point. And even if that
doesn't satisfy you then there is the calibration controls under display
properties that can be set for games or desktop independent of each
other. But I have never had to touch them because ATI's settings are
fine for me. And then as a final solution you can get Rad Linker which
will alow you to adjust the gamma for each game independently.

Or maybe it IS the monitor ;)

Maybe for some reason all your games are opening in Windowed mode? That
would kill any gamma setting you may have made, if you made any at all. The
monitor also has settings for contrast and brightness, and a warranty for if
they don't work. As a last resort you can turn down or off the lights in
your room, or perhaps your own lights with a ball-peen hammer since you lack
the gene for minimal intelligence that is required to expect a non-hostile
reply to a derogatory posting, and should be removed from the gene pool.

The fixes mentioned in this thread PLUS look at your refresh rates and
change those. This has helped me in the past. Shawk.

Could very well be. Lots of people don't set up their monitors
correctly, same with TV's too. Using a gray scale with about 10 steps or
more does wonders, which can be found on the web easy enough.
